What is GATE?
Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All India Examination administered and conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven other IITs (IIT Madras, Bombay, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Delhi, Guwahati, & Roorkee) on behalf of National Coordination board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), GOI. GATE evaluates the fundamentals of Engineering in a smart way, and checks the knowledge of entire course of Engineering in a span of 3 hrs. The GATE score/rank is used for admissions to Post Graduate Programmes (ME, M.Tech, MS, Direct Ph.D.) in institutes like IITs and IISc etc with financial assistance offered by MHRD.
Several PSUs and government research organizations (ONGC, IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, BARC, ISRO etc.) have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with GATE organizing committee to recruit Engineers/scientist at entry level with attractive remuneration.
Candidates can appear only one of 24 steams in GATE Exam Listed below. Candidates are expected to appear in a paper suitable to the discipline of their undergraduate degree. Nevertheless, they can choose any paper based to their education plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the institutions in which they wish to pursue higher degree.
